AMAR-GO

¡Hola!

This is a painting that I did some months ago. I named it "AMAR-GO", which is a pun in Spanish ("AMAR" means "to love", but "AMARGO" joined together means "bitter"). This is one of the most personal works I have ever made, so it's really special for me. It's part of a collection of paintings  that I'm working on that portrays the ways we love people and ourselves.

The following fragment of a poem by Lope de Vega captures, in my opinion, the essence of this painting:

"Hiding one's face to obvious 

disappointment,

Drinking poison as if smooth liquor,

Forgetting the benefit, loving the harm,

believing that heavens fit in a hell,

Giving one's life and soul for a

disappointment"

For this work I used watercolors and color pencils, and this is the result:

¡Hola a todxs!

Este es un dibujo que hice hace unos meses. Lo he llamado "AMAR-GO" y es uno de mis trabajos más personales. Forma parte de una colección en la que estoy trabajando que trata sobre las maneras que tenemos de querer, a uno mismo, y a los demás.  

El siguiente fragmento de un poema de Lope de Vega resume lo que, en mi opinión, transmite éste cuadro:

" Beber veneno por licor suave,

Olvidar el provecho, amar el daño;

Creer que el cielo en un infierno cabe,

Dar la vida y el alma a un desengaño"

Para este dibujo he utilizado acuarelas y lápices de colores. La primera foto es el resultado final, mientras que las otras dos son fotos del proceso.
